Copper pipe in strainer basket???

My wife found this video and shared it with me. I told her it’s sound advice for preventing algae, but bad advice for a pool. Wouldn’t the copper introduce metals into the water?

Just putting a copper pipe in to a skimmer will only release copper in to the water if the water is horribly acidic. Thousands of pools have copper heat exchangers and plenty of them get algae.

This is just more social media BS, same as the people who claimed a Magic Eraser in the skimmer will clear a pool. They're getting views, that's all they care about.

In my mind, I could clearly see someone putting a piece of copper in their skimmer, then placing a couple acidic pucks right on top of them. What could go wrong?
