Copper Pipe going to Aerator?

We're having new drip irrigation installed, and the guys found a 1/2" copper pipe running along side the pool. It looks as if it's going to the aerator, as I can't imagine anything else it'd be going to. The pool is 15-20yrs old (guessing, we're not the original owners/builders so I'm not sure). There's no heater, and all the other plumbing is done with Sch 40 PVC.

I'm just trying to identify the copper pipe- is it feasible that it's going to the aerator, and if so, why wouldn't they use PVC for that?

Thanks!

Previous owner was very odd- it wouldn't surprise me he had something rigged up. It runs right past the auto fill, and the autofill is PVC off of the main, so I don't think that's it. Is there a way to tell if there's water running through it easily (cutting it open?)

If you're gonna check it by cutting, get ready for it.

Have a cap and solder and a torch standing by. Or a compression fitting and a plug. Also have someone standing by to kill the main.

Ask around. Maybe somebody has a metal detector and you can trace it and figure out where it goes. Discovering a half-buried hose spigot you can use might be a pleasant surprise.

What's odd is that the pipe angles under the cement decking and towards the light/aerator/vacuum port. I don't see it coming out anywhere else.

Any other thoughts of what this could be? It's very odd to have a water line running up under there, right?
