Converting Summer Waves to Sand Filter

Those Summer Waves skimmers are unique and require modification for a conventional set-up (skimmer-to-pump-to-filter-back to pool. Unless someone else replies soon, here's one example below where someone did it.

Here's another discussion.

I have a sfx1000 filter system I am changing to sand filter.what can I do.for skimmer basket to hold in place since there is no more filter cartridge to hold it down??

I had the same system and know what you mean. The skimmer basket will be held down by the suction effect from the pump itself.

When I got mine, the sfx1000 was cracked so I replaced it with a intex I had already. To use the big square hole in the pool, I got a skimmer attachment off amazon and attached the hose to that.

In your case, I suggest using the skimmer basket and remove the impeller on the pump itself. It will twist off the bottom and you can use a pair of pliers to pull up on the impeller. Then run the hose off the pump part to the pump for the sand filter. But you still have constricted water flow. I suggest getting a new basket / skimmer and putting the sfx1000 aside as a backup.

All this is assuming you are not using the sfx1000 as the actual pump for the sand filter. If you are, leave everything as is and just do not put a filter in. The basket will be fine.
