As swimming season approaches I was debating delaying opening the pool this year. In the past I’ve followed the advice here about opening as the water temperature approaches 55 degrees before algae starts growing, and that method worked great. But that means an open pool for 2.5-3 months or so before its warm enough to swim. If I were to wait to open the pool, meaning algae would take hold, other than opening to a green pool and having to SLAM it to clear it up is there a down side to waiting that long to open?

Potential staining and a longer SLAM Process.

Sure, but we do that all the time in our warmer areas. Not difficult to maintain if algae-free since the cooler water uses less chlorine.

Many people already showing signs of algae across the country with the weird (warmer) temps. IMO, open as soon as you can and just coast along until you are ready for your first plunge. :swim:

The early season isn't nearly as demanding as the peak season. If you let it go full swamp in an effort to save energy/costs, you'll be upside down on both in the end.

I personally want mine open the second freeze concerns are done for asthetics alone. The trampoline or tarp is hideous IMO. I even got a nice grey cover to match the patio, but :puker:
