I am now getting around to making the low-voltage connection from my Pentair Mini-Max to the automation.
Still a bit confused possibly, so any advice will ease my fear factor.

1. So, I understand that there is supposed to be a jumper in the heater wiring that you cut and tie a 2 wire cable to the gas heater terminal on the IC board (I can't find that "jumper").

2. Also, the IntelliCenter Installation manual states to do the following: "Remove the factory installed "jumper" from the heater's Fireman's Switch connector. At the heater, connect the conductors in accordance with heater manufacturer's instructions. For older heaters without instructions for remote operation, connect the conductors to the Fireman’s switch connections in series with the thermostat, pressure switch, and other safety switches".

3. I cannot locate a "jumper wire" per se, but the heater manual states the following: "The MiniMax 100 may be connected to a two wire remote control by disconnecting the wire connector from the hot (transformer) side terminal of the "ON/OFF" switch and connecting the two wire remote across the end of this wire and the aforementioned terminal".

Here is a photo of what I did (I think this is what the heater manual is advising). The brown and yellow wires are the wires that would connect to J2 on the system board. When I turn the On/Off switch on the heater (I assume that is the "Fireman's switch") to ON and touch the two wires together (completing the circuit) that would normally be connected to the J2 connector on the system board I think, the heater fires up. If I turn the Firemans's switch to OFF on the heater, then the heater goes off (which is the way I think this is supposed to work). ???

If this is in fact wired up correctly, then it looks like four things must occur in order for the heater to fire up and run correctly if I'm right.

1. On/Off (Fireman's) switch must be set to on (left to on I assume, so the automation can take control of the on/off function).
2. Automation must complete the circuit using the two wires connected to J2 on the system board.
3. Gas on.
4. Water flow greater than 20GPM (pressure switch activated).

I just wanted to run this by someone that might be able to advise on whether or not I have got this right (I think I do), before I go connecting those two wires to the automation system and end of "frying" my heater and/or the IntelliCenter system board. Thanks very much....

r,

What you have done appears correct to me.. The automation just completes the circuit.. You have to leave the heater in the on position and set for max temperature.. When the automation completes the circuit, the heater will heat until the set point in the automation is met.. then the automation opens the circuit and the heater shuts off until the water temp drops below the set point, etc...

The automation will also control the pump speed for when you want the heater to run.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Jim..
Perfect. Thanks much!. I thought what I had done was correct, but the wording in the IntelliCenter manual was a bit convoluted (this is not the only case) and I wanted to get another set of eyes on this to get a "reality check" before I connected it up.
Thanks again!!

r,

If you can turn the heater on/off by manually touching the two wires together, you have found a cheap replacement for what your IntelliCenter is going to do... :p

Pentair manuals are written in... well, Pentair... I believe the Pentair Language is based upon ancient hieroglyphics, and is unreadable by the majority of humans..

Thanks,

Jim R.

:laughblue: ON TARGET, on both accounts!
Thanks Jim...
