Connecting a VS pump to aqualogic controller

Hi all. Can I connect a VS pump (non hayward) to an aqualogic controller?
I've been perusing this site for a few days and have seen a lot of questions and answers that are pretty close to my question/dilemma but not exactly, so here goes.
I have a hayward northstar 2 speed pump that has given up the ghost. This was my 2nd complete pump and motor replacement after rebuilding the original pump years ago. I'm giving all of this info because I'm moving to another brand. I'm a bit disgusted that I cannot rebuild my old pump because the parts are no longer available.
I wish I would have found this forum first but I've already purchased a 2hp Black and Decker VS pump. New pump brand I know and B&D isn't exactly a premium brand but a 5yr warranty seemed worth a try.
I would like to be able to continue to use my SWG controls and if possible have the controller still engage its freeze protection automatically.
My concerns are everything that I've read tells me to wire the new pump directly from the breaker. If I do this I lose all pump timer automation from the aqualogic controller, correct? I presume that if I use the "load out" wires from relay 1 to the 2 terminals on the pump and set timers as usual, when the controller times out, all power to the pump is cut off. This pump has it's own on/off switch and timers/speed controls on an onboard key pad. If power is cut off at timed out from the relay will the pump come back on at start run time?
Or will this work? Wire pump directly from breaker, set timers on pump keypad to run various speeds and times, run pump on lowest speed through the wee hours during cold spells for freeze mitigation, set timer on aqualogic controller to fool it into thinking its running the pump so that I still get readings on temp, salinity etc.
Am I over thinking this? Under thinking this?
I really appreciate the time that the members of this forum give to their fellow pool owners. Your knowledge is irreplaceable.

I think that is the best you can do with what you got.

Set the pump to turn on first and stop last.

Set the programs in the Aqualogic to run within the pump runtimes.

I would have told you to buy a Hayward TriStar pump. Have you considered selling the B&D pump? The TriStar pump will make your life easier.

Thanks for the reply. I will go with your suggestion.

I won't buy hayward again. I've got a bad taste in my mouth with them over the pump rebuild kit no longer being available and their proprietary, bayonet style, non threaded, plumbing connections that I now have to cut out and re-plumb because no one makes anything identical. This is also causing me to cut out a 3 way Jandy valve that I'll have to replace.
