Clorine sticks vs tabs

My pool guy used to put 3" pucks into the skimmer so I carried on doing so - he must know what he's doing, right?! Local pool store said I should switch to chlorine sticks instead but I don't understand why. I understand the bit about highly concentrated water in the skimmer rushing into the plumbing when the filter turns on, but how does that change if a stick is used instead? We use a pool cover so floats don't work too well (unless I misunderstand that too).

They're more expensive than tablets from what I can tell, $5 for a 1lb stick at low quantity prices. Do they last longer pound-for-pound?

You answered your own question...they cost more and make the pool store more money.

Start by reading 20 or 30 threads in this forum and you will see not one person on this website will condone what that store is doing to you. It borders on criminal....

The theory of the sticks is that they dissolve slower than tabs and don't dissolve with no water flow.

In my opinion, there might be a tiny bit of difference, but not enough to matter.
