Cleaning Pool Cleaner From Algae

My pool had algae. I used my pool cleaner (Dolphin M400) to clean the algae first.
I was told that this is a mistake and that I shouldn't put my cleaner back into pool because it has algae in it so it will bring algae back to pool.
My question is how do I clean my pool cleaner so I can use it again?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! :handshake:

Did you use the SLAM Process process to rid the pool of algae? Are you using the [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA] for maintenance FC?

If you did, pull the filters from the robot and soak in a dilute bleach solution. Then reassemble and put the robot in the pool. You can bump your FC to 10% of CYA that day for some extra insurance.

How are you testing your water?

Take care.

Thanks for the answer.

The pool store I am working with suggested that I'll add algecide and then shock the pool. Looks like it is working (pool is still cloudy but not green anymore).
I was just worried about not being able to use my pool cleaner afterwards...
Do I need to clean other parts of the robot other than the the filters?

You are welcome to follow your pool store suggestions but they are very different than what this forum advocates.

Algaecide should never be used if you have algae. It is a preventative. And one we rarely recommend. Be absolutely sure you do not use a copper or ammonia based algaecide.

If you are not going to follow the SLAM and then use the [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA] for maintenance, I am hesitant to provide further guidance.

Wish you luck.

Take care.

Well I am new to the forum. Took some time to go over Pool Care Basics to understand that I need to change a lot of routine maintenance. There are a lot of things I have been doing wrong...
But it seems as there are many steps I need to take to follow this forum's way. I'll start taking them one step at a time...
But I don't want to ask unrelated questions in this thread.
Assuming I am going to follow the SLAM and use the FC/CYA chart for maintenance, I understand that cleaning my pool cleaner filters is good enough.
I'll switch to using liquid chlorine instead of my current tablets to bump my FC to 10% of CYA when I do that.
The store tests says my CYA level is 140, which is out of any chart in this site. I'll get my own testing kit and start from that point.

Thanks for your help! I definitely help a lot today!

Good to hear. We think you will have a more pleasant pool experience and save alot of money following TFPC.

I would suggest obtaining a TF100 kit from TFTestkits.net or a Taylor K2006C. Order one very soon.

A great way to go through Pool School is the eBook. Trouble Free Pool School

There also is an app that helps you store your test data and also calculates your chemical additions, etc. Pool Math
