Im in the middle of a algae growth and been in the trenches for 2 weeks. i had a high cya drained half the pool and now the pool is cloudy with a little of green algae still lingering levels are all where they need to be. my main question is the local pool store employee has told me any brush or equipment i use needs to be cleaned afterwards, is this true? they advised 4 parts water 1 part muriatic acid?

Welcome to TFP.

Someone is confusing Muriatic Acid with chlorine.

You should clean pool equipment using a solution of 4 to 1 liquid chlorine to try and scrub off algae.

I suggest you learn about TFP methods using your own test kit and our SLAM Process to clear algae. Toss the pool toys into the pool during the SLAM Process.

Using their dump and pray advice, they don't know what they don't know, so they're afraid of it all and blame the pool brush when the flawed process didn't work.

Read up on the above links and follow them to a T. You'll be golden in no time.
