Chlorine prices

Hi all can you let me know the best place and price for the tablets thanks
Tablet prices are all over the place, you can try Walmart, Home Depot, other hardware stores. But we’d steer you away from the long term use of tablets because they’ll increase your stabilizer levels too much and leave you with water that’s really hard to sanitize. TFP would recommend a good test kit you use yourself and to chlorinate with either liquid chlorine or a salt water chlorinator.

See this link:

to add to what @Bperry said many tablets also contain copper & other things you really don’t want in your water. If you must use tablets go for plain jane ones that say 99% trichlor - nothing that says blue/blu/xtra etc. on the label.

While tablets are convenient they can be very insidious due to their acidic effects & increasing cya levels which can lead to needing to exchange water often.
Multiple parameters (fc,cya,ph,& ta) should be monitored closely when using them as they affect all 4.
We recommend that their use be limited to vacations, as helping hand in the winter when fc demand is low, or when you need to increase cya just a little & the ph can take the hit.
Not many here use them for daily chlorination so most don’t really price shop since they don’t buy them in bulk.

Take the advice of @Bperry and @Mdragger88 and try to avoid tablets.A lot of people are under the impression they are a solve all for proper sanitising, which they are not.Like has been said tablets are very acidic and contain high percentages of cyanuric acid.I have seen people put them in skimmers and totally destroy their skimmers and pumps basically straight acid being sucked into the skimmer throat and pump impellers, not to mention seals and gaskets.I would recommend listening to the advice on this forum in regards to the methods that all follow on here. The reason why they work so well is because it does, just follow the advice given on here and you will have a pool with water that looks like a brochure and long term equipment life as well.

That feeder is designed for trichlor tablets only.

We recommend that you either :
*dose the pool manually daily with liquid chlorine aka sodium hypochlorite
(added directly to the pool slowly infront of a running return)
*use an automatic liquid chlorine doser
or
*replace the feeder with a saltwater chlorine generator that is rated for at least 2x’s your pool’s volume (that feeds the pool chlorine for you) or if you have space on the equipment pad plumb the swcg before the feeder if you wish to keep it.

Hi if I replace mine to a saltwater chlorine doesn’t my pool need to be saltwater also

You need to add salt to your chlorine pool. The generator makes the chlorine from the salt. So yes it would be a salt water pool, but it’s not ocean salt water.

You would need to add enough salt for the swcg to operate - usually around 3000ppm. The ocean has about 35,000 ppm for reference.
All forms of manually added chlorine, acid, & calcium increaser, along with the salty people add salt to the water that doesn’t leave unless you exchange it with fresh water so you likely already have a bit of salt in the water. You must test your salinity first to know how much before adding any more.

Hi all I think I’ve confused you all I don’t have a salt water pool to my knowledge

Just explaining that If you want to use a salt water chlorine generator to feed your pool chlorine for you,
you would likely need to add a little salt to your water to get it to the appropriate level. It would then become a “salt water” pool. Nothing else special is required. Just the correct amount of salinity & the swcg unit.
All types of pools (vinyl, plaster, fiberglass) can be salt water.

Hi guys as you can see no clue salt water vs regular pool are you suggesting this feeder could allow me to switch to a salt water pool what kind of chemicals are needed with salt water ? This is the feeder below

That is a tricolor tablet feeder not a salt feeder. The maintenance and chemicals for a salt Pool are the same as any other pool as there’s chlorine in both of them, the machine just makes the chlorine from the salt in the water. The pool is a lot less maintenance.

No, we were simply suggesting that you ditch the feeder & add a salt water chlorine generator in its place if you wish to not have to dose your pool manually with liquid chlorine daily.
Using the trichlor feeder/ trichlor pucks is not a sustainable way to chlorinate daily unless you’re going to exchange water on a regular basis due to the cya levels increasing.

Hi all I think I’ve confused you all I don’t have a salt water pool to my knowledge
Whenever you add chlorine to a pool, salt is usually added as well. So chances are if you tested your pool for salt, it would be there to some extent. I learned my pool had salt at 2800 when I added a SWG this summer. That was all from chlorine additions over the course of about 2 years! I had never added any salt granules. Most pools are “salt water pools”

Hi I’m following you and makes sense can you let me know what do I need to buy and would I still use the feeder thanks

First things first you need to test your water accurately so you can chlorinate appropriately according to the chart
FC/CYA Levels
With Either a Taylor k2006 or a tf100/pro (+salt if that’s the route you wish to go)
Test Kits Compared
Until you get a kit & can test you can add 5ppm worth of liquid chlorine to the pool each day to keep it sanitary.
Use PoolMath to calculate how much that is based on your pool volume & your liquid chlorine strength.

If you want advice on what salt water chlorine generator to purchase to chlorinate your pool we need to know your pool’s volume & do you have a spa? (It looks like perhaps you do)
Filling out your signature in detail helps us give you the most accurate advice

As far as keeping the tablet feeder if you install a saltwater chlorine generator, it is not necessary to do so & could actually cause problems. It doesn’t look like you have the space for both anyway.
If you have the need to use a few tabs in the future for any reason (vacation or little cya increase) you can just use a simple floating dispenser.
