Hi. The top layer is Xcel. I can’t tell if that’s the only thing that chipped, or if there’s something between the concrete and the Xcel. Can I just reapply Xcel to these chip offs? ThanksWas a coating that chipped put on the concrete?
Looks to me like paint or a koold deck type of coating.
yes, i've seen these videos. but they're mostly for resurfacing the entire deck. any solutions for patching? thank again...That looks like acrylic lace texture (sprayed on similar to drywall texture). And possibly Xcel deck coating for the color.
Google "xcel deck" - some info and youtube videos there.
You would have to check with someone who installs the acrylic lace.yes, i've seen these videos. but they're mostly for resurfacing the entire deck. any solutions for patching? thank again...
Thanks for this. I’ll give it a try, assuming I can find the Xcel top coat. You would have to check with someone who installs the acrylic lace.
Or you could carefully scrape the area to remove all the delaminated acrylic lace (don't get carried away), do a very weak acid wash of the area you intend to over coat and then apply the deck coating to the prepped area. You won't have acrylic lace coating in that area, but the deck coating should adhere to the smooth areas as well as the prepped acrylic lace texture.
If you plan to use the Xcel Deck brand, you may have to find someone in the trade to get it for you. Not sure you will find it on a retail shelf anywhere.
There are other similar products - I just happen to be familiar with Xcel as that's what was used on my deck. Ask around and see what may be available near you. Thanks for this. I’ll give it a try, assuming I can find the Xcel top coat.
Yes I’ve seen others. Xcel is what was used on mine, so I figured best to stay consistent. There are other similar products - I just happen to be familiar with Xcel as that's what was used on my deck. Ask around and see what may be available near you.
Nice. I’ll check it out. Thanks!EZ patch has a product EZ patch 2 for look pill deck repair. They have videos on how to do different size repairs. They have several colours. I am going to be using it to fix our Kool deck in a couple of weeks. I have not heard of the product mentioned in the other reply. Good luck!
Xcel surfaces web site lists places in Texas where their products are available. I have used it for patch work on my deck, seems like a decent product but have no other experience to compare. Xcel seems to be part of Shasta pools, in same address here in Phoenix. I am just about to patch some areas on my deck this week. Patching is same process as full on coating, prep being the key. Clean concrete, paint light bond coat of their liquid additive, skim coat of very loose additive and powder texture mix to cover the bare concrete then texture to match. Paint or stain finished coat. Some try to imitate the texture by stippling or pulling the product up with a stiff brush then using a pool trowel to knock it down. I spray the texture with a cheap drywall hopper gun from Harbor freight then pool trowel. I watched a professional do a repair then did it myself, like anything, once you know how the do it pretty easy. Their web site has links to videos on the process, good luck!Nice. I’ll check it out. Thanks!
