I am in the process of changing the shaft seal on my 2011 Intelliflo 011018 pump. I purchased the Pentair go kit and have gotten things apart and started to do the clean up and reassembly when I noticed that the rubber seal in between the shaft seal and front bearing has a slight crack in it.

There is no water damage to the bearing and it feels smooth when I rotate the shaft but to be safe I would like to replace the rubber seal before reassembly.

The problem I have is that the rubber seal does not appear on the usual parts diagrams I have been able to access so I am at a dead end trying to locate one. I searched for Pentair VS-20 which is the number embossed on the rubber seal without success.

Does anyone have any suggestions to locate one or if I should even be worrying about the condition of my existing rubber seal?

I appropriated this pic from another thread related to shaft seal replacement to show the seal I am referring to:

Per this thread, it's kind of an oversized bearing protector/water slinger to help protect the motor bearing in case the shaft seal fails. I might reinstall it if it doesn't seem like it will break in the near future or get a new water slinger (a little rubber "washer" to help sling the water away from the motor bearing if there is a leak). I can't find the part to point you in a direction to get a new one.

Those come with the motor and aren't listed separately as a part.

I think that it's either:

Part number ZBR44430 Frame 71 V-Ring kit or

Part number ZBR44440 Frame 80 V-Ring kit

Pentair does not make the motors or the seals.

The motor is made by Lafert S.p.A. in Venice, Italy.

S.p.A. means “Società per azioni” and it is a form of corporation in Italy, meaning "company with shares", “Joint stock company” or “Public Limited Companies by Shares.

Lafert does not make the rubber V-Rings; they buy them from a supplier.

Most companies that manufacturer things use a combination of parts they make and parts they buy.

So Pentair might make some of the pump parts and buy parts like the motor and seals etc.

The motor maker might make some parts of the motor but they will also buy parts like the bearings, V-Rings etc.

Steelco makes and sells steel to Ballco LLC who makes the steel balls for the ball bearings and sells them to ball bearing LLc who makes the ball bearings and they sell them to Lafert who makes the motor and sells it to Pentair who makes the pump and sells it to Superior Pool Co who sells it to the builder who sells it to the homeowner.

Steelco <--> Ballco LLC <--> Ball Bearing CO <--> LaFert <--> Pentair <--> Superior <--> Pool Builder dudes <--> Johnny Homeowner.

So, it can be a long and complex series of different supplier who make it possible for a product that ends up on your property.

If you need to replace the balls in your ball bearings, you have to track down the ball supplier.

I will confirm correct fit when I receive it.

I bought from this seller on eBay due to the availabiliy. Paid 11.00 (best offer) plus tax shipped.

I did find a few online stores that were selling for around 7.00 shipped but did not have any in stock so I went ahead and paid the four dollar premium to get it quicker.

Unfortunately, it will be a while before I need to put my pump back in service as we just got around 4 inches of snow this morning.

This is $1.61, but that does not include shipping and they might not sell to the public.

Global O-Ring is probably also low without shipping, but they might also not sell to the public.

I came across those two suppliers but figured that shipping would easily be 5-10 dollars so the price would have been as much or more than the others I mentioned.

I did consider calling and asking for a sample to be sent for evaluation but in the end, I possibly overpaid for the part to minimize the time and hassle involved in obtaining the needed seal.

Following up to close out this thread.

New seal was delivered today. Glad it was a rubber seal and not moms good china as box was flattened out like a pancake.

Seal is an exact match for the original one.

For the price it gives me a better level of comfort than reusing the original one. Not only was the old one cracked but it was apparently dried out as the replacement one is a lot more pliable.

Replacement seal is on the left of both pictures.
