My CH is currently 575. Pool Math suggests my upper target level is 550 and my max safe range is 650. I've seen it mentioned here that you don't have to worry about it until it hits 800. I found quite a bit of calcium build up in our SWG when I cleaned it recently. I was wondering if I even have to worry about it as long as I try to keep my CSI in the correct range. I've been checking my PH more often since I found the build up.

My CH does usually lower a bit in the winter depending upon how much rain we get (not always a sure thing here). Since we use more water here in the summer just to keep our plants alive, I was considering lowering my CH some by water exchange this winter.

I'd appreciate any input you might have.

Thanks!

With a high CH all you can do is try and keep your CSI negative by maintaining a low pH and TA.

Work your TA down to 60-ish and keep pH in check. As calcium level rises, you need to maintain a lower pH to keep CSI in the 0.00 to -0.30 (negative 0.30) range. This will minimize scaling in the SWG.

Use PoolMath and play with the TA and pH numbers to see the effect on CSI.
