CCP420 pentair with 30 PSI

Hello,

I purchased a house with a built-in concrete pool last year. The pool has been neglected for several years and I had a company opened it. There is a Pentair cartridge filter and the psi is around 30. I asked my pool person about the 30 psi and was told that is normal. My pool person has taken the cartridges to acid soak them but the psi is still 30. I asked if they need to be replaced and was told no. I cleaned them today because the psi was at 40 but cleaning only brought them down to 33 psi.

Is is this normal? I also had the pump replaced with a pentair vsf. I was told the pump is work fine and not worry but my water is never clear.

ef,

Welcome to TFP... A great place to find the answers to all of your "Why am I under so much pressure" questions... :shark:

I agree with James above... not at all normal.

For reference I have about the same size filter and pump and my filter pressure is rarely above 12 lbs...

Since the filter pressure changes with pump speed, we need to know at what speed the pump is running when you are checking the pressure gauge. It sounds to me like you are running at full speed or 3450 RPM, which is basically the opposite of what should be doing.

If you can post a couple of pics of your equipment pad, and tell us your pump speed, we should be able to get you pointed in the right direction..

Not having clear water is not a filter problem, it is a chemical problem. You might want to read through our Pool School... Here is a link.... Pool School - Pool School

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

ef,

There is almost no reason that anyone should have to run an IntelliFlo at 3450 rpm..

Why are you running it so fast? What happens when you run it at say.. 2000 RPM?

Thanks,

Jim R.

My installer set the program:

12:01 am - 7:00 am ->750 RPM
7:01 am - 10:00 am -> 1500 RPM
10:01 am - 4:00 pm -> 2600 RPM - the PSI is around 25 here
4:01 pm - 12:00 am -> 3450 RPM - this is where the PSI = 40

I am estimating my pool at 36k gallons.
