Hi folks, briefly, we'd left a foam pool float near the fence for a few weeks. Cleaning the area today, I picked it up and tossed it in the pool, immediately noticing, as the float was floating through the air, that a branch of poison ivy... 6 leaves or so, had somehow grown underneath it. I immediately pulled the float from the pool, but the damage was done. Our friends, who were coming over to swim, are highly allergic, and are worried that the water's exposure to poison ivy on the bottom of the float might cause them to get poison ivy from swimming in the pool. We canceled the playdate and I poured a gallon of liquid chlorine into the pool.

We're hoping to have them over again next weekend. I think that that little exposure to the pool water would not spread the poison ivy oils, but you never want to give kids poison ivy. Anybody have any experience with this?

As an aside, I'm planning to use soap and water, and then bleach, on the full size pool float to clean the PI off of it. Any thoughts about that?
Thank you!!

A simple shower after swimming would suffice to remove any residual oil. But I have a really hard time believing this is an actual thing that needs to be worried about..
Thanks.

So do I, but my friend has two disabled children. She's understandably very concerned about anything that could possibly be a threat. I would think that a week of filtering and chorine would kill just about anything, but I wanted to ask everyone here before I get back with her on this.

Thanks for your input.
