This maybe a silly question, but can I use the pool pump to open up the pool this season? When I had a service, the techs brought their own pump and vacuumed the pool using that pump and the waste went directly to the street. This seems like a great idea to me because on opening, my pool floor is full of dirt and worms. So I definitely don't want to be running that through the filter. I know I can bypass the filter but I still have some doubts. First, the waste on my system goes to a separation tank before it goes to waste. I guess I can remove the net in there when I want a true waste option? Secondly, I get hundreds of worms and dirt and maybe sticks/leafs. Will it be save to use my normal vacuum for all of that? I am not sure its safe to have dead worms going through the pump and ducts.
Or should I bypass all of those questions and rent a separate pump similar to what the techs used? If so,, what pump should I use for this? I see some options on home depot, but I am not really sure what I need. Here are some options.

Pool companies build those vacuum rigs using a 120 volt 1/2 - 3/4 HP pump with a vacuum hose on the suction side and a long drain hose on the return side. You can build one to have or pay a service to do an intial vacuum.

The HD pumps youlinked to are way too powerful and will drain too much of your water.
