Can I use masonry sand in filter?

Hey y’all first post here! Can I use masonry sand in my sand filter? (I got a ton of it). I have a blue torrent 16” with a 1hp pump. I’d like to add that I know NOTHING of sand filters. My aunt bought my mother a 18ft steel sided pool for her bday and shipped it to her. I’ve had the joy of putting together what I have now named the “7th circle of heck” by myself. It’s been nearly a week and I’m close to done. My mood would greatly improve if I could save a 40 min drive to buy sand.

No and now I am running out the door before you throw something at me :gone: LOL

Filter sand has to be a special size and consistent in that size so it does not blow through the laterals into the pool. I am sorry :(

Nope. Masonry sand or play sand won't be the right size particles. Too fine and it will blow through the laterals and into your pool. Too coarse and you might as well just shovel some broken concrete chunks in for all the filtering it will do. And don't skimp on filter sand, either. Unless you do something really stupid (like adding pool-store snake oils) this is a one-time expense.
