Can Diatomaceous Earth - Float? Filter grids ripped

Hi,

I just got my pool started up after the build and I put in DE for the first time. Right after I noticed it coming out of my return jets.

After inspecting the filter (Pentair FNS 48) grids, two of them had a small hole causing the issue. Pool company got me a whole new manifold with all new grids the next day.

I spent days running the robot cleaning up all the DE and debris and got everything looking great. I still notice what looks like small, tiny, semi clear flakes floating in the pool not getting sucked from the skimmers to filter.

Could this be DE floating or something else from a tree or outside. I wasn't aware of DE floating, but I have no idea. My salt cell was clean and I got a super fine pool net coming as my standard net won't catch it.

Any other ideas or has anyone come across the same issue?

I don't think DE floats. Can it be pollen? It's the pollen-ocalypse here.

Maybe - all the trees are still shedding Crud all over the place. It legit looks like tiny clear flakes, but it can't get into the filter bc it's floating.

I'm hoping the super fine net coming tomorrow works, but wasn't sure if someone had a DE issue like this. Thanks!

It's not getting skimmed out? Does your skimmer have a weir door?

Maybe - all the trees are still shedding Crud all over the place. It legit looks like tiny clear flakes, but it can't get into the filter bc it's floating.

I’ve been using DE since 2004. I’ve never seen it float. I suspect it’s something else.

It's going into the skimmers, but floats on top inside the skimmer. So it's not getting pulled into the filter. The water is very clear, just some mystery floating particles on top now.

I just started the pool and adding all the chemicals last week. I'm getting close to having everything balanced and the salt cell was perfectly clean when checked today.

I use a small net meant for aquarium fish to clear things that float in the skimmer, myself.

Yup. It's in the skimmer and the pool. I have a super fine net coming and hope that works. My biggest worry was it being DE somehow.
