calcium hardness and soft water

hello, i could not find an answer to this question but posting it here. if your water calcium maintains 300ish levels (high side), could you just add soft water to the pool to balance it out? or will the soft water itself pull more calcium out of the finish? just a thought on how to keep my levels on a lower side without having to do a drain as our water rates have gone up 10% in the past year alone :D

My autofill is plumber into my softener line. Works just fine. But I spec’d my softener based on a pool being connected to it so it has maximum capacity. If your softener capacity is only matched to the people in your home then you might see the regeneration frequency go up a lot. A swimming pool is about equivalent to adding another person to your household in terms of soft water use.

There is no chemistry issue. People that make those statements don’t understand water chemistry at all.

What is your fill water pH, TA and CH.
Most probably, fill water CH is in the mid 200's.
Using soft water for your autofill will allow the CH of the pool water to remain relatively constant.
When water evaporates, the calcium is left behind and will continue to accumulate.
