cable lines

We are about to install a 15"x48" round pool in the backyard and we just had the utilities come up and mark the terrain. Apparently, there is an internet cable going through the spot we're thinking of.

Suggestions? We have not started grading / removing sod yet. Do we ask them to reroute (would they?) or is this location doomed?

Although the internet is more of a lifeline now than telephones ever were, CATV companies are not utilities. They are privately owned companies who own a line to your house. If you want your utilities moved you will probably have to pay for it. If the privately owned TV company wants to keep its customer, chances are they will move the line for free, or at least a small fee.

Code probably worries about real voltage somehow bleeding over from the Electric lines back where they are in the same area before it splits and goes under the pool by itself. But the Coax TV wire by itself is harmless.

In the old days, phones and cable got trenched below the frost line. Now they get spaded in with a shovel just deep enough that they won't pop up for a foot and get hit by the lawnmower or trip somebody, so it's a much easier move.

U have a few options
*Ask them to move it - which may take a while
* Relocate your pool position
* Do None of the above & risk the financial ramifications of hitting /damaging their line.
If it’s fiber it’s not cheap (also your neighbors will be pi*$ed @ u because the internet is down)

did they say how deep it is? - also if u set a pool on it & they need to dig it up later i’m not sure how that might go?

To close this loop, I called the cable company and they are moving the cable. Yes, it is fiber and no, we will not want to damage that. Moving it is not complicated, it's just spaded in the ground, a few inches deep. Their contractor came over to look at the site, but while we're figuring out leveling solutions and final pool place,ment, we decided to give ourselves a week before they actually move it. So: good to know they will move their cables! That was a good call. Thank you!
