Buying a used pool

Hello I'm new to the whole pool thing. We've been interested in buying a above ground pool for the last couple years. We've looked at some new ones, but would rather not spend that much. Recently I've found some used local pools for sale. The one pool is a 10 year old quest 30' x 4'. It comes with 2 year old pump, 3 year old heater, covers, and a slide. For $1000. I guess my questions are. Is it worth buying a 10 year old pool? Are quest pools good and can I get replacement parts? I know I'd need a new liner. If I'd go look at the pool and there's any rust anywhere on the pool. Should I walk away? Any feed back would be great!!

Welcome to TFP Doghouse. Im no expert on AGP but lots of folks have them and Im sure you will be just as cooled off in an AGP as an IG pool :)

A few things stand out: saving money is always good. The pool is 10 years old so being in pristine condition will be slim. You will have to weigh the cost of replacing parts and or liner. If it were me I would think to myself what is my worst case scenario and out of pocket expense vs purchasing new or slightly used. Im afraid your 1K is or would be only your initial investment....

Best of luck...

Hello and Welcome to TFP!

Getting a used pool is a good way to save some cash, especially if it comes with some additional equipment. Although it does come with some risk and no warranties. That's the biggest drawback. For the equipment, age isn't always a good indication of life. A lot of equipment condition is based on how the water was maintained and how it was treated.
I haven't heard of Quest pools, but that can be common story in the AGP world. There are many manufacturers out there. You can try to do a Google search and see if parts are available on the net or through a local dealer. The main things to look for are rust particularly down at ground level where the wall sits in the bottom rail since this is typically burried. Also around the skimmer/return area. Surface rust can be managed, but severe rust can compromise the wall and /or supports. You may not truly know for sure until you start to disassemble or dig out the bottom rails.

This time of year, many new pools come on sale to clear out inventory. You should continue to check online and local dealers.

Only reason i would buy a used pool is for the equipment.. Personally i would not trust a used pool go to all the work and expense of setting it up and find out it has a hole some ware.. As stated above watch the sales
