So I have an 11 months old solar pool cover that's been rolled up on the reel since last September. I'm in Northern CA so extreme heat and cold isn't a thing. Was going to cover the pool and found that it has started to detoriorate.

Got a hold of the seller and they are going to replace it which was nice of them. However I was told that the photo I submitted was example of deterioration and chemical which is not going to be covered again. It only cover manufacturer defects. This is pretty BS, pools are expected to have chemical and be out in the sun. WTH is a solar pool cover for. Quite shocking if you ask me. My last cover was good for 3 seasions but I can't remember the brand anymore.

What's everyone's experience with their pool covers?

Sorry DB that this happened. I'm old and crotchety about these things but they made me that way. Most warranties aren't worth the paper they are printed on. Between loopholes and companies folding or being sold, I smile when any salesperson is telling me how XYZ will warranty the purchase for however long.

No name companies from the internet ? I consider anything from them disposable.

Warranties are designed to protect against manufacturing defects, not exposure to the elements. They don't know what kind of mistreatment these things will be subject to, from awful pool store advice creating an acidic cocktail of pool water to someone leaving it rolled up in the sun for 8 months, it would cost 10x more if they replaced every cover a customer broke.

It is always suggested that pool covers be treated as consumable and since they primarily work by reducing evaporation the cheapest ones work just as well as the most expensive.

My solar covers last around 3 years. If you leave it on the roller in the sun, it reduces the life quite a bit. When on the roller, it should be covered. During the summer, I don't use mine. I put the roller back under my trees where it is shaded all day.
