Hi all, we are at the phase of plastering/pebbling this week for our gunite/shotcrete in-ground pool. The builder has a subcontractor that will be doing this. When I told the builder we like to go with Hydrazzo, the plastering subcontractor saying he would advise against using Hydrazzo due to him saying quite a few microcracks in most of the Hydrazzo finishes he has done. I am in Phoenix, AZ, so I figure the excessive 100+ deg F dry heat would be a huge factor affecting the subcontractor recommendation.
  1. I just want to get some opinions from this group to see if you have Hydrazzo finish for the pool, if so, is microcracks developing a common problem.
  2. If not Hydrazzo, what are some recommended alternatives? I want to go away from the rough pebble or mini-pebble finishes, as I really like the smooth finish but yet supposedly durable finish like Hydrazzo. Not sure if the alternative would be NPT's PolishedScapes or QuartzScapes?
If we do decide to still go with Hydrazzo, we love to see what everyone's pool finish with the water in looks like. For now, we are decided on the Hydrazzo Pacifico Azure, but open to other lighter color finishes as well.

Thanks.

Have you contacted other Hydrazzo installers and ask if they have the same concerns?
I am going to ask other qualified Hydrazzo installers this week before we move forward. From everything I read online, the issues with Hydrazzo seems to be the darker color finishes that may cause mottling or during the installation process the installer did not do the proper prep work (acid wash, bonding agent, etc.).
