Good morning all: We have a clear bubble wrap solar cover we put on our pool It has been on approx. 1 month we live in Brevard co. Fl. last check of FC was 7, CC 0.
It has been overcast for the last week and rain This am I noticed this yellow film "growing " on the edges of the cover. I am assuming this might be a Algae?. If so are there any remedies.
The pool water temp has only gone up to 68, still a bit chilly to use for me. If I have to keep taking it off and cleaning the cover with chlorine it seem like it is just not worth the trouble. Might have to look for other heating alternatives. Pricey, Any Ideas? Thanks

Pollen and dust in the air will collect on top of a clear cover and make it look pretty nasty. If the color is on top of the cover its coming from the air. If the color is on the bottom of the cover where it is in contact with the pool water its coming from your pool.

I need to clean the top of my solar cover a few times during a season to get all the pollen and dust off of it. On the positive side it's keeping all that stuff out of your pool water and out of the filter.

FC=8.5
CC=0
TA=110
PH=8.2
CH=350
CYA=60
Salt=4400
Temp=68
Those are test results from this am. I will try to run a OCLT tonight Removed pool cover Yellow gunk is on top pf cover where rain collects on the edges and a tiny bit under where cover overlaps each other cover in sections for ease of installation and removal

I am sure you will address it but the high pH and TA with your CH, salt, and water temperature put you in a position to start creating calcium scale.

Take care.

To keep your SWCG from scaling I suggest you monitor CSI and keep it between -0.3 and 0.0. If I allow my CSI to go positive I start to shed calcium from the SWCG when the polarity reverses.

Yes I just added acid PH is now at 7.6 according to pool math My CSI is now balanced.
MEA CULPA the salt is so high SWCG light was going to low salt Strips were hard to read, Pool store said salt was 3400 strips said about 2600 again hard to read added 1 bag salt light went green 2 days later red again added 1 more bag of salt.
ordered Taylor K1766 salt test kit Salt at 4400 Thinking cold weather might have been cause of SWCG red light as it was below 50 a few times. Live and learn.
Took solar bubble wrap pool cover off this am as I am wondering what the yellow gunk is..

Several have suggested pollen and I tend to agree. And from your description of where it is, even more so. If you want a test, place a clear plastic trash bag on your pool deck, with maybe something under one side to make it hold some water. Weight the corners down with bricks or such. After some days and some rain/evaporation, I believe you will see the same thing and have your answer.

I suspect too that some things are blooming/growing in your area by now?
