First time cleaning my pool filter in my new home today. When I was putting it back together I accidentally broke the pressure relief valve on top of my STA-Rite s7m120 filter. To replace it, I ordered a new one and we filter cartridges on Amazon. Estimate it will take 2 weeks to arrive. In the mean time what do I do to balance my new (drained and refilled water last weekend)?

I need Chlorine snd CYA but can’t circulate. I was thinking adding 1 gal 10% liquid chlorine and a couple pounds of CYA in a sock. Skimming and brushing the pool to mix it. And then covering the pool to keep the sun from burning off my Chlorine until the replacement part comes in. Does this sound like a good idea or are there any suggestions for something better?

thanks in advance

As you know the water needs FC like right now or your inviting trouble if it hasn't already started. Not sure what thread size you have on top of the filter where the gauge threads on to but even a post threaded plug will allow you to circulate through the filter or even a temporary ball valve gismo-ed up to make it work and bleed out the aor until parts arrive.

Thanks tomorrow I’ll try threading a valve to close off the hole. I’ve been adding chlorine at night as a maintenance/problem minimizar. Every night when I check the FC it’s back to <.4

Is this what you have?

What part is broken?

Yes. That it. The T part is what broke. I called Leslie’s Pool Supple and they are out if stock and 2-4 weeks to order. I ordered one on Amazon which will take about a week. But this morning I woke up to a green pool, so I just want an emergency plug to be able to run my pump.

BTW. My pressure gauge is so yellow I can barely see through it. I ordered all OEM part to replace the entire assembly as well as the filters. As I do more research I think I should just upgrade to better parts...higher flow relieve valve and retrofit the filter to the 3 smaller ones.

All that can be replaced later. For now I just want to get everything running ASAP and will return what I don’t use/need later.

I believe you can remove the T part and screw the gauge directly into the other black part. You won't have a bleed off unless you unscrew the gauge till liquid begins to flow and hen screw it back in till air stops coming through the threads.

Get these two parts and you are back in business.

Thanks everyone. Everything was up and running around noon when I got the part from a local pool supply store. I was trying to do something like your last post James, but I was trying to do it from the 3/4" main port and that wasn't working out since the threads are a different pitch. Anyway, here's the temp part in place until I replace the gauge/relief package later when the part comes in.

Now, you just need a pressure gauge that you can read. :)
yeah, they asked me if I wanted a new gauge in the pool store but I declined since I already had two on the way via Amazon. I should have asked them how much since it may have been less expensive and I would have been done with it today.
