My 25 year old Hayward 1.5hp Super Pump finally failed. If I replace the entire pump, I have to do some pipe work. If I replace the motor only, I’ll have to do some disassembly and assembly. A bit of a saw off in terms of effort.
Price difference in Canada is about CAD$400.
But, does the impeller or other parts of the wet end have a finite life span?
Other option is to plumb in a cheap Chinese replacement which is less than the price of the Hayward motor. I realize it won’t last 25 years but a) it’s a booster pump that only comes on when I use the spa and b) I won’t be around in 25 years.
I should add that it’s a salt water pool so maybe the cheap Chinese pump won’t hold up.
Just bouncing some options off the forum.
