Been looking at the B&D and Calimar VS 1.5hp pumps. They look identical except color. B&D is more expensive yet comes with 5yr warranty compared to 1yr for Calimar.

I have a 18k gallon fiberglass with 3 returns and 1 suction. 250# Sand Filter, 250btu heater. 1.5” pool plumbing.

Has anyone had any long term experience with either?

It's basically the same pump marketed by different vendors. I would bypass the 1.5 horsepower and go straight to the 3 horsepower pump. It's one of the best values out there. Search TFP for Calimar pumps.

+1 to 3HP, for $70 with the Calimar its a no brainer.

With the only difference being the warranty, is 100% the cost of the Calimar worth it to you for the odds that you'll need 2 more of them in years 2 to 5 ? Because when the B&D is double the cost, you could buy a 2nd Calimar if needed and break even. So really the warranty is for the 3rd theoretical Calimar needed in 5 years when satistically speaking, the 1st one will last years and years.

(I didn't check today's costs but B&D usually dances around twice the cost. Its still substantial today, I'm sure)

You think about just changing the motor to a V.S and keeping your pump?
