Hello all,
I'm surprised I haven't seen anything in the first few pages here about this pool, as I have had nothing but problems with it. I'm giving this thing a second shot if I can get some good help here, I've had a hard time not running a knife through the side of the pool a few hundred times so I'm praying my kids will actually get to swim more than 3 times this year.
Last year I bought a Bestway pool from costco, Oval 18' x 9' x 4' dimensions. Came with a weak little sand filter, and cheap 1-1/4" tubing and various connections that all add up to about $1.50 worth of plastic it seems, so for $499 for the whole kit, sounds about right.
I upgraded and got a hayward sand filter and a couple HP pump from my uncle that ran his above ground pool that was at least 4-5 times the size. So I'm not worried about power anymore. Here are my issues:
1. I need to upgrade the hoses to accommodate the power increase. The pool came with 1.25 in hoses that had plastic adapters to utilize the in/out hose nipple (For lack of better words). A lot of the plastic pieces were rotted by the sun and broke apart. I would like some suggestions on how to update the hoses and still have it work with the weird setup that is on this pool.
2. After hooking up the new filter last year (Rigged would be a better description) I put new sand in the filter and got everything hooked back up, but it almost seemed as though it was just blowing sand into the pool. (Yes I backwashed the filter first). Has anyone dealt with this issue?
3. Water temperature gets to roughly 4368 degrees f, and I need to figure out how to keep it just under the surface temperature of the sun. I've seen these Intex pool fountains with LEDs in them. Has anyone used them to cool their pool a bit? I rigged up a piece of PVC last year and that helped, but I don't know if these will move enough water to matter. Amazon.com : Intex Multi-Color LED Pool Fountain for Above Ground Pools, Fits Metal Frame and Ultra Frame Pools : Garden Outdoor
I think these things will suffice for now. Any good advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
James
