I currently use 3 inch tablets but I have been reading about using liquid chroline. I can get a barrel 55 gallons of sodium hypochlorite for about 300 dollars. Would this be a cheaper option than tablets? How long would this last for a 20k gallon pool?.

Keep in mind that bleach degrades over time & eventually becomes just salt water, this happens faster if it is not stored in a cool dark environment.
So your 10-11% bleach may be 5-6% by the end of the season if you buy it now.

If it were 10% this is hardly a bargain. Do the math $5.45 gallon with risk if it were to last.

Say you did well and it was all used X 5 years doing so. Now go buy the SWCG of your choice for the same $$$ with less headache.
