Baking soda instead of Bioguard Balance Pak 100

My pool store said to add 18 lbs bLa. E pk for my 13000 gal pool??
Hey welcome!

Why are they suggesting adding that? Pool stores are notorious for really bad test results that end up making you buy expensive baking soda when you don’t actually need it. Do you have one of the two TFP recommended test kits to test the water yourself?

Hey momma and Welcome !!!

Is that a typo ? 18 lbs will raise your TA by 99.

Balance Pak 100 is baking soda. It's $8 for 13 lbs at Bjs/Costco.

I bet they did because they make a lot of profit off selling overpriced baking soda. And their test results always point to something off that needs to be corrected by purchasing even more overpriced chemicals from them.

Do you see the game they are playing?

How about this instead - look around the TFP website and see what it is we teach. If you agree with the philosophy of pool care here, then do the following -

1. Purchase your own high quality test kit and learn to test your pool water yourself,

2. NEVER SET FOOT in a pool store again (unless they’re having a sale on pool noodles), and

3. Ask lots of question here on TFP.

Welcome 👋

Balance pak 200 is washing soda/soda ash
Balance pak 100 is baking soda
They have different effects so it’s important to know which one you have.
That said, it’s unlikely that you need to raise your ta or ph by that much so I wouldn’t add that much of either product.

Any ph in the 7’s is fine
& any ta 50 or above is fine.
