Automatic Safety Cover vs, Fence - Insurance Providers

I have a pool cover specialist safety cover on my pool. We have had it for years (replaced the cover twice so far from age). The building codes here accept the ASTM certification in place of a fence so we have not had a fence. I have a letter from our current insurance company that we have been with for years stating that they accept the safety cover in lieu of a fence but I would like to shop around for competitive quotes from other insurance companies/providers. Seems every single one I call does not even now of the existence of these safety covers (which would save hundreds of infants every year from drowning) and they just insist on a fence. They are clearly ignorant to the safety benefits. Fences are mandatory and safety covers are optional. Should be the other way around. Unfortunately it is not and surprisingly, the cover manufacturers that I have contacted so far are of no help.

I am looking for any information about insurance companies that will also accept the ASTM certification so I can shop around. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I too have a Pool Cover Specialist cover. Love it. BUT.... that said, what happens if I walk off and don't shut it immediately?? Disaster *might* happen.

Yet no one removes a fence after it is up, so I can see where they're coming from.

Also local codes vary by municipality. What is acceptable in one place can be verboten in another. Even if you found an insurer that would do it normally, they can't if it is against your local code.

I think you're up against a wall here....or should I say missing fence?

If the electricity goes out, you have no protection. If someone forgets to close the cover you have no protection. Automatic safety covers are great tools, but much less foolproof than a fence. I completely see why insurance companies don’t recognize them. I have both. Our county requires a fence.

Viewed from the side of the one taking on the liability, the insurance company, they are fallible and therefore risky.
