Attaching underwater light to inground pool with Acrylic Foam Tape?

Hello All,

I have an in ground pool, but it has a vinyl liner as the previous owner of the house said that the pool bottom was cutting her grandkids feet. There are no lights in the pool and I would like to fix this without major work of busting into the pool itself.

I saw several highly rated underwater lights for above ground pools, and I would like to adapt them for my pool. I googled for double sided underwater tape, and several websites talked about this tape:

https://www.amazon.com/3M-4941-Double-Sided-Acrylic-Yards/dp/B004V40IUS

Has anyone tried something like before? Would putting that tape on the vinyl and then attaching a light cause any issues? Does anyone know if that tape (or any other type of tape) would accomplish what I want?

Thanks for any feedback.

We use the 3M VHB tape for some things at my job, it is an excellent bond, very strong after 2-3 days.

However, we did not have very good luck with underwater application (stainless steel to stainless steel) trying to mount parts in a EDM machine. The bond would fail in some of the longer cycletime applications (>12hours in the water).

We do use additives in the water (for electrical conductivity as well as rust prevention), so I can't say for certain if is just from being submerged, or if it is some kind of chemical reaction.
