Ahhh - a pool store potion.

Be aware many of those plug up your filter. We do not recommend using any pool store potions. Chlorine will do the same thing.

Wondering if you are still on this site. I have the same problem as the guy in this thread had. Today when my pump came on i ended up with a oil or lubricant film on the top of the pool water. It looks like fuel because of the rainbow effect like fuel has when in water. But it's not fuel . The same thing happened a couple of months ago and i had the fire department come out and check. No one has been in the pool. No work has been done around or to the pool . Last time i ended up getting Pigpads to get the oil out. What could cause that to get into my pool? Could it somehow be from the pump?

That type of material would not come from any pool equipment. It was added or came from the environment. It should dissipate. But a tennis ball or two in the skimmer to absorb some of it.
Do you have a pest control or lawn service? Does it correlate to the time they visit?
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.

No and thats a reason why it's so frustrating . It makes no sense. When it happened the first time in July I figured it was because a pool leak repair guy had a leaky sump pump when he drained the pool down a bit. So I ended completely draining the pool and refilling it .Then used Pig Pads to get the oil off the surface. The sock type Pig Pads work best. So it's been perfect since . Then yesterday out of the blue , the same thing starts happening when the pump started . I am the only one here . My pool is in a screened lanaii.

There is no oil or petroleum product in any pool equipment. So it was added, somehow, from an outside source.

The last time could have been from the sump pump if it was oil filled. Best to not use those types in a pool.

What type of filter do you have, and have you cleaned it since the initial oil situation?

This is total speculation, but could some of the oil been caught by your filter and then later worked its way through the filter back out into the pool? Its a long shot, but wanted to ask.
