Am I asking for trouble by having a wall water feature in a sports pool?

In a perfect world I could have my long wall water feature and the family could have their sports pool. I would prefer the water feature run parallel to the court. This will require placing a sleeve for the volleyball net in the top of the water feature. I have a slight concern about this but apparently it is not unusual to get creative with net configuration. I wanted to get recommendations on a water fall design that would be the most durable. Most scupper style waterfalls are out due to safety concerns. Or am I just asking for trouble trying to accommodate this style of water feature in a sports pool? Thanks so much.

Welcome to TFP! I suspect the wall will be flush-up against the edge of the pool. So instead of a sleeve inserted down in the decking, I wonder if the builder could install wall anchors to the side of the wall for fastening point for a volleyball net? Basically no pole on that side, just tie the netting to the wall?

Hi and that sounds like fun! I agree with Pat about the pole on/in the water feature. But you could have "tie offs" put into the wall such as they use for safety ropes. They have recessed ones that should be very safe.

I have some friends who have that setup, but they have the sleeve on the backside of the wall for the pole, then a tie point on the actual wall for part of the net.

I haven't paid too much attention and know they had to rig the net a bit, but its worked well for the past few swim seasons.

Perry,

I have a waterfall wall that I just 'had' to have when my pool was built.. I have not used it in over 7 years.. Once the fun wears off, I can see it for what it was, a waste of money..

I'm sure the my design is part of the problem.. It is a wall with three scuppers that dump water into the pool. It looks great when in operation, but... To make the scuppers work, you have to run the pump at a pretty fast speed, so that the water shoots out into the pool and does not just dribble down the wall itself. When running, it is so loud you can't have a conversation in the pool area. Sign!! My wife and I like to use our floats in the pool.. Of course the floats move around the pool, and when they get close to waterfall wall, they apparently think their job is to try and drown you...

If I had to do it all over again, I would not get the waterfall wall.. But, if I just had to have one, I'd have it in an area that was not used for swimming or floating and I would not have one that dumps directly into the pool but somehow just 'dribbles' over rocks and then slowly flows back into the pool.

Just to say... Be very careful what you wish for.. Some ideas look great on paper, but not so great in operation.

Thanks,

Jim R.
