3-Way Valve Mounting Orientation

I'm getting ready to install my new Waterway 425 filter and plan on installing a bypass for the water heater.

Sort of a dumb question that I couldn't find the answer to -

I bought a Hayward 3 way valve, does it need to mounted in a horizontal orientation? All of the installation I've seen pictures of have the handle on top like a hat. Ideally in my situation I would like to install it so the handle is on the side and rotates vertically like a clock.

Orientation will not matter. Matters more that there are no restrictions in movement and it is easy to access.

Same question for the Hayward check valve, I would also like to mount it vertically. I assume I should use a check valve for the hot water bypass. Comments?
