24x24 Marble Paver Layout

Hi All,

Just curious as this is our first pool and we have been at a stand still for quite some time waiting on the marble to arrive from Turkey. Good News - it is here! The issue is our pool is rectangular and our home has about 5 different angles that are making the layout of the pavers an issue for me (maybe not for someone else!) Our vision is that the pavers will be laid in a diamond pattern with the apex of the tiles to be set at 45 degrees for the full circumference of the pool - so that leading off the pool everything is symmetrical. The trouble comes with the angles. The pool builder suggests we use the length of the pool closest to the house as the plumb line and let the pattern run from there... my mind does not follow that and my concern is that the other borders of the pool (left & right) will be wonky and out of place (ex: view from sunshelf). Pictures attached for reference. If anyone has 24x24 pavers on a diagonal in a similar situation what did y'all do?

Should we just let the length of the pool be the guide and let the pattern run? Will it make a difference once everything is laid out?

Since the pool is the focus of the yard, I would square the stones with the pool.

Are the stones going to be mortared and grouted or laid loose on sand?

I would do mortared and grouted.

Have you checked the coping for 100% square and equal measurements in all directions? Being off by even a small amount will play with anyone's OCD. But in general, yes, you pick whatever you want to be the starting point and work out from there. Mine is a freeform pool and you should have seen how happy the travertine layers were when they got to the far side and everything matched perfectly.

In my opinion, a square pattern with mortared and grouted stone is the way to go, but it's not my pool.

It's really an aesthetic issue and it just depends on what you want.

I was going to suggest a 'diamond' layout instead of square, but then I saw the funky angles of the house. If that protruded part was 45% to the pool it would have been awesome to follow it. And the wall between the protrusion and the short side of the pool is its own angle.

So I'm with James. Square up on the green lines and leave all the funky cuts tight against the house on the red line where you'll rarely see them.
