    It's official. I am cursed.

Since I had my first ever pool installed last season, my pool barely reached 75F for only about 2 weeks time in early July. Last summer was cool and extremly rainy. I must have drained my pool 5 times during the months of June, July, and Aug. I battled Algae all season... This pool season thus...

OK great , Thank you !

    Help! Crack in outlet fitting...

I am willing to bet 2 things attributed to that fitting cracking (and this is what I observed with my pool) 1) the pressure vibrations emitted from the prior flex hose cause stresses on the bung fitting. (I see a ball valve, but are you PVC "hard plumbed" ? 2) the 1 1/2 NPT pipe was probably...

Another needed upgrade and why (pic)

If you look in the pic you will see 2 flanged unions on each pipe assembly. These unions quickly and easily unscrew by hand, and then you can remove the pipes to do filter maintenence. I can shut off the ball valve at the skimmer, shut off the ball valve in the return line, or I can install my...

How much FC is "too much" ?

This year I have the mindset that I am going to maintain as high a level of FC's so as to not cause harm to my swimmer guests. Right now my FC is 5, and my kids swam for severall hours this past memorial day. I can smell "chlorine", near the pool, but my kids had no problems at all. No red eye...

Upon Opening How Much Chlorine did You Use?

measured my FC in mid april, and my FC was "0" 6 gallons of shock later my FC is now at 5 , my volume of water is about 16K gallons, my CYA is 50, and my PH is 7.3, and my water is crystal clear !! :)

How Many Hours Per Day for the pump?

Right now where my pool has minimal (if any) usage, I am running a 2 1/2 hr cycle, (just about enough for a turnover). Once my kids get active I run 4 hrs daily, and during a heavy usage family bbq pee party i'll run it continueous for a few days :) .

Another needed upgrade and why (pic)

My hose burst right at the hose clamped return fitting in the wall. This is where I had the most vibration which actually looked like it was stressing the wall fitting. When you hard plumb, all the vibrations will be gone as well which will lessen the likelyhood of stress cracks in the skimmer...

Another needed upgrade and why (pic)

Ever have one of those cheap, cheesball flex-hoses rupture? Of course, mine ruptured, and emptied my pool right down to the skimmer lower level while I was at work !!!!! Well, not going to happen again! I'm hard plumbed now!

Look what I found when I pulled my cover off (pic)

I can't tell you how good I feel! I am a new pool owner, and last season REALLY tested my patients with pool water management. Here in NH last year we had a very mild and wet summer. Perfect for accelerated algae growth. I must have drained my pool water level 10 times last season from excessive...

Look what I found when I pulled my cover off (pic)

I basically started testing my water right after "ice out" which was like the last week in March. My chemical levels were all ZERO. I basically had pure drinking water.... 6 gallons of shock, 170 oz. of stabilizer, and just running my filter a few hours in the afterenoon, and I have perfectly...

When do those who live in the northeast open their pools?

My yard is heavily wooded around the perimeter, so springtime tree debris is a BIG problem for me. As soon as the last of the whirrly-birds, and the long pollen spores are done falling from my trees, I remove my cover, which is memorial day weekend. I start bringing up all my chemicals in early...

Look what I found when I pulled my cover off (pic)

Almost crystal clear water !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, I owe it all the this forum, and that awesome "pool calculator" ! I have been spending the last month bringing up all my chemicals to proper balance, and running my filter about 3 hrs a night. This prior season maintenence payed off...

How early do you start running your filter?

Those of you who live in the colder regions, when will you start running your pool filter ? I was thinking about maybe later this month assembling my filter and start running my filter. I am not going to bother removing my cover until all the springtime PIA "whirrly birds" tree debris have all...

    First Swim of the season

If I wait till my pool hit's 80F to swim, I would never get a chance to go in. My average temp last season was the low to mid 70's. Last seaseon in New Hampshire was an unusually cool rainy summer.

is there a way to keep GALLONS of water off cover

We had a very WET fall here in New England, and a VERY snowy winter. Being a brand new pool owner who just dropped a total of $12K on a pool, deck addition, and needed accesories I am extremely cautious about the adverse weather compramising my pool's lifespan. I can't tell you how many people I...

How to secure an AG cover?

Well, I almost have my cover secured. What a friggin' PIA to get a oval cover started when you've never done it before. I was ready to flip out as everytime I would get a few feet started, the other side would fall in the pool and water on top of the cover makes it almost impossible to properly...

How to secure an AG cover?

Hi all, I am just reading the installation instructions for my winter cover, the cover manufacturer instructs to use a cable routed through the cover eyelets, and cinched up tight with a mini ratchet tool. There is no mention of adding any type of weighted ballast bottles (shock jugs filled with...

    Filter question about combating algae

Hello all, I have been having a moderate reoccurance with algae this past month. I was told by my LPS to never vacume green algae, but being a "green" pool owner, I did. Now I am going through the process of brushing and shocking. My question is should I run the filter now, or do I wait until...

Not a good year to buy a pool in New England....

Well, this has overall been a very dissapointing year for my maiden voyage into purchasing a pool. I have been on vacation for the past 2 weeks and the weather here in New Hampshire has been absolutely GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's been raining off and on for the past 2 weeks, and the worst is the...

Your opinions on a high quality winter cover?

Hello everyone, I am a new pool owner, and thus far have been kinda' scammed by my pool company into buying "less than ideal" performing pool gadget items (Pool Frog, and Polaris vacume). So I am asking here: Whats a good quality winter pool cover. I live in New Hampshire, and the winters here...
