    Butterfly Skimmer Gasket

I think Hayward has changed their instructions. It used to be install the skimmer, punching out the holes, remove the skimmer, install the gasket over the wall AND the liner, reinstall the skimmer. The instructions now state to install the gasket from outside the pool, over both sides of the...

Pool Factory AGP oval - sand or foam inside for base

I am a big fan of foam cove. Since you are using the foam cove, you are just concerned about your sand base. The sand is there to level the bottom, cushion it, protect the liner, and to some extent provide drainage. The recommended depth varies depending on manufacturer, but between 2 and 3...

What did you do to your pool today?

I put mine together with the supplied screws. They promptly fell out after about a season. I then bought some stainless steel bolts and nuts, drilled some holes, and bolted the thing together. Now I have given up on it and I have three 10' or so sections of 4" aluminum pipe that I can't bring...

    Alkalinity and PH problems

You can use Borax, but borax will also raise your pH so you have to add acid to counteract it. You can get lab or food grade boric acid from a variety of places, which will just add borates and not mess require the addition of acid. Just make sure it is lab or food grade. Other types, such as...

    Alkalinity and PH problems

Total Cleanse is made by the same company as AhhSome. Not sure if it is exactly the same product or not, but @Ahhsomeguy should be able to tell you. The question is, are you following the directions? Adding the product, letting the jet runs, wiping away any scum, etc. Pristine Blue is...

    Alkalinity and PH problems

There is a lot going on here. 1) Strips and stores are extremely inaccurate when it comes to testing. You cannot correct something if you do not know the actual numbers. Get a good, drop based test kit 2) Has your tub ever had the plumbing purged with AhhSome? If not, I highly recommend you...

    Beach Vacation Ideas

We stayed in Sandals Grande, which is basically just outside of Gros Islet. We flew into the airport on the other side of the island as well. We opted for the helicopter transport. I'm glad we did (plus it was like a mini tour of the rainforest and banana plantations)

To protect the cover from deterioration, is it necessary to have the cover COMPLETELY off the hot tub after adding chemicals?

I would love to find something that actually cleans mine. I have tried a number of things and they all clean it a little, but nothing really seems to get the dark stains out.

    Beach Vacation Ideas

Where did you end up staying? The problem with St Lucia is that most of the resorts are on the side of the island with the SMALL airport, the larger airport that can handle the larger planes is on the other side of the rain forest that is in the middle of the island. Most places have a shuttle...

I suspect that I have done that at times. My batteries usually last a LEAST a season. But then sometimes they are dead in a month.

Can muriatic acid be safely used to remove mineral buildup in toilet siphon jet?

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS However, my father was an auto mechanic. I remember when I was a kid we had a toilet that was flushing poorly because of mineral build up. He brough home some battery acid and added it to the toilet. It flushed much better after that. Knowing what I know now, not as a...

    60's Coke Machine Disaster!

I have a converted keg as well. I also used two turkey fryers as pots. Funny thing is I use an immersion coil to chill my wort to pitching temps. Back when I was brewing I did not have a pool. I used to just run a garden hose through it, and lament about wasting all of that water. Now I can...

Hot tub TA wont come down

In a hot tub, the pH will naturally rise over time because of the aeration due to the jets. At first it will rise quickly and eventually as TA and pH come into balance it will become more stable, only requiring adjustment every so often. After I do a fresh fill, I have to add acid daily for...

    60's Coke Machine Disaster!

15 years or so is about the same time period for me. I still have all of my old equipment. I had just started full mash brews (with a lot of manual work, not the fancy automated set ups) and now they do the whole gran bag thing too. I was going to do corny kegs of soda water, but we have a...

Does Bullfrog ever respond to your phone calls or messages left on their web based message page?

I have never tried to contact Bullfrog directly, but instead worked through my dealer. My dealer would answer my called, and tell me they could get no information from Bullfrog. I chalked this up to the fact that I bought my tub the week after my dealer re-opened after the COVID shut down. The...

    60's Coke Machine Disaster!

I'm not spending $2.00 a bottle, I'm SAVING 5 cents (or something like that) Have you ever looked into bottling your own? Seriously. You can get a counter pressure filler and capping machine fairly cheaply. I used to do it with beer if I wanted to bottle something off of a keg I made instead...

Anyone do travel sports with their kids? Tips to make it more affordable?

I have Global Entry. If I am flying domestically I use the Global Entry card as my ID. My Global Entry required a lot more than a Real ID ever will (fingerprinting, background check, and in person interview). I should just be able to use it to get a real ID. If I am flying international, I...

Anyone do travel sports with their kids? Tips to make it more affordable?

I used to like flying. Now, not so much. It really has become a cattle call and delays much of the time. For a cruise, definitely fly in the day before. I would never attempt to fly in the day of a cruise. Sometimes we cruise out of a port that is drivable (Bayonne NJ has Bermuda cruises that...

Anyone do travel sports with their kids? Tips to make it more affordable?

I guess the good news, aside from her making the Nationals, is that Vegas, overall, is pretty much the cheapest place in the country to fly into. When I had a team that was spread across the US, we tried to find places that were the overall cheapest to have face to face meetings in. Vegas was...

New pool build in NJ (2/16/23)

MA is really not the scary monster that a lot of people think it is. It warrants respect and proper safety precautions, but is not as if it will kill you if you look at it sideways. Dry acid adds sulfates as well as acid. Sulfates harm the coating on salt cells. Sulfates are like CYA. They...

Is a bubble cover or other cover between swims best way to keep debris out. Also, vacuum recommendations. Intex 32 x 16 pool.

A solar / bubble cover will keep a lot of debris out of your pool. Until you take it off, and then it all falls into your pool - but you can then skim it by hand. They can be a bit of a pain to take off and put on, but I think they are worth it.

To protect the cover from deterioration, is it necessary to have the cover COMPLETELY off the hot tub after adding chemicals?

Corrosion on exterior wall bottom on Saltwater 8k pool?

I read that and was amazed that the pool store had a geological analysis lab and geologist on staff. There are rocks that CAN be acidic. Or more accurately, as water runs over them they leach out minerals that will reduce the pH of that water. There are rocks that will do the opposite as well...
