Tile Backerboard Under Legs? End of 2nd Season Update

So tropical storm Hilary passed about 70 miles east of LA and as a result in a 12 hour span we got more rain than over 10 pool seasons combined. (Yeah, I know, in the rest of the world it would be a normal summer rain, but this is LA.) The picture shows how well 1/4" backerboard didn't work this...

How late in the season do you run you pool?

I start draining and putting mine away when the water drops below 68˚ and night time temps drop below 60˚. Here in the San Fernando Valley that usually means late October. This year was different: over all this was one of the coldest pool seasons on record and the 4" of cold water tropical...

Intex skimmer basket on Bestway pool

Yes, but the second pump is an Intex 637r that I got as a stop-gap, not the original pump that came with the Intex.

Intex skimmer basket on Bestway pool

Here's what I did. As I recall the skimmer was not really effective with the other port open. Are you using the "heater" pad? Use one pump for the skimmer and one for the "heater". Note that having only one inlet to a pump is now considered a safety hazard. (But then mosquitos laying eggs on an...

Skimmer doesn't seem to be pulling anything?

Here's what I did. You may have to block off the second port. The skimmer was designed many years ago and in the interim the "safety standard" changed and having only one inlet to the pump is considered a safety hazard. Also, consider using a steel C-clamp over the plastic clamp. The latter...

Question about Intex/Bestway Wall Mount Surface Skimmer

Last year I replaced my Intex with a Bestway (both from Costco). The Bestway came without a skimmer and I was very unsatisfied with the Bestway "plumbing" but that was probably because the current "industry standard" is to have two 1-1/4" outlets (vs. one 1-1/2") for safety. Also, I wanted the...

Talc or Silicone Spray on Top Rail? (Bestway/Costco) (DIsassembly Update)

As a reminder, I went with talc. Disassembly was a easy-peasy with absolutely no sticking. Unlike my previous Intex pool, the metal has a corse powder coating instead enamel paint. The latter might be the reason there was some adhesion with the Intex. And from pictures online, it appears that...

Tile Backerboard Under Legs? End of 2nd Season Update

End-of-Season Summary: (As a reminder!: 1/4" backer board is NOT for every situation!) In our case it worked perfectly. But we have very compacted ground. How compact? I actually swept the bare ground with a broom before taking those pictures. Also, from late April to the end of October we had...

If i add a dedicated pump for the solar heater, where does it does it go?

I am currently using a two pump solution. When the pump that came with my previous Intex pool failed mid-season last year, I got a small Intex pump to limp through the season. The new Bestway pool has the two ports T-ed to the pump and a "heater" pad. My take was that with the two intakes and...

Best way 12x22 - small buckle??

I have the same pool. I'm filling and maintaining it so 25mm (if you're in Ontario, CAnada eh) or 1" (if you're in Ontario CAlifornia dude) of the white is showing above the water. I bows a little just like my previous pool did for 12 seasons. You're fine.

Intex skimmer basket on Coleman/Bestway pool

The blue piece in the pool is from the Intex skimmer and it screwed right on the gray piece on the left. To get adequate suction I first blocked the second inlet off. (And thus created a safety hazard were I to have small children in the pool.) As I have it set up now, it's enough suction as...

Need help what should I do?

Been there, done that. And this year it was with the Costco/Bestway. https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/bowed-sides-18ft-x-9ft-on-soil-with-scaffolding-boards-under-legs-foam-mats-under-pool.251435/#post-2205148

    Elevated water return

Be aware that using the 1-1/2" opening for the pump inlet might be/is a safety hazard. That explains why the pool has two 1-1/4" inlets that tee. That said, I have similarly defeated the two-inlet safety feature. So make sure that your situation can tolerate having such a hazard.

Intex skimmer basket on Coleman/Bestway pool

Been there. Done that. If your Bestway is anything like my Bestway and if you have the same skimmer basket I have it's quite simple. Sorta. I'm guessing your new pool came with two fitting that go in the pool. One side is covered with a kind of cage that's supposed to keep a smaller body from...

    "Short" 1-1/2" "Intex Style" Hoses?

Does anyone have a link to an "Intex style" 1-1/2" hose that's shorter than the (what seems to be the standard) 3 foot length? Or a male to female el that can attach to a 1-1/2" pump inlet? Or some Mickey Mouse idea?

    New Intex options

My Costco/Intex, after 12 seasons (emptied, folded and stored outside under tarps during "winter") some areas of the liner were bleached, others were a little thread bare, never a leak. Plenty of mold stains between the water and poles. The metal is still beautifully coated with no rust. If the...

Bowed sides - 18ft x 9ft On soil with scaffolding boards under legs. Foam mats under pool.

I just retired a very similar pool after 12 seasons. It looks to me that it's not full. Stop me if you heard me tell this story before: In the last week of April I fill the pool halfway, wait until I'm sure the meter reading has happened then finish filling it. (This way most of the water is in...

Tile Backerboard Under Legs? End of 2nd Season Update

Newdude, you raise an excellent point: backer board should probably only be used in certain conditions. The same applies to 1" pavers, 2x8s, etc. I was shocked to look at magiteck's post hole. Yeah, with water so close to the surface, backer board might not be such a good idea. Living in SoCal...
