DIY 32x16 ish pool on steep slope

I got the ground pretty level now. I did end up cutting the high spots and using that dirt to fill the low spots. Had several inches of rain last week that really helped settle things. Drove over it many time with the big tractor for good measure.

Before doing the final leveling, I decided to get started on the walls. Here's the first pine after cutting it.

Cut to exactly 40' and ready to be placed. My co-pilot is making sure I get the placement right.

Here my helper is using the tamper bar to get the log just right.

Tractor / mountain view just for kicks.

Second log in place.

So my plan now is to back fill with all the rocks I pulled out during excavation and then build up the 2 side walls with 2 logs as well and back fill there as well. Next I plan to set posts to hold the logs in place, and then add a 3rd log all around and back fill back up to level and so on until I'm done. I'll add some bracing as well.

Wow, that infinity pool look awesome. Will certainly keep something like that in mind for when I do my permanent one.

Do infinity pools have issues with higher evaporation rates that regular pools? I'm curious if that would be the case due to the large surface area in motion at the "waterfall".

Had a little time after work today to cut down 3 more trees.

Rear grapple definitely comes in handy for hauling logs!

Had to dig this corner out a little to get it level.

Placing 2nd log in front of first one on the 2nd side.

First 2 rows loosely in plane on all 3 sides.

Next up will be using the auger to drill holes for all the vertical posts (cut logs), then backfill with rocks between the logs and dirt wall to push the logs tight up against the vertical supports, until I get level with the 2nd row, then add the 3rd row, backfill some more, and so on.

Thanks Suz!

So I had a little spare time again tonight. Got one hole dug and post dropped in.

The post was cut 8' so it is 3' 6" in the ground and 4' 6" out. Tamped the dirt every 3" as I filled. Lot's of work, but that guy is in there!

Just 11 more to go! :D

WOW! Is about all I can say. And that's about all of it, the view, the outdoor dining, the progress and of course the toys! I'll admit, I'm jealous of the toys and your abilities. I'm pulling up a chair to watch the progress on this one for sure.

Thanks for sharing your progress with all of us.

KirkMc you just took the words out of my mouth!! The toys and the pictures are awesome keep up the good work.

Thanks guys. Was finally able to work in the pool again this week. Got all the vertical posts set and started back-filling.

Started with some large rocks at the bottom for drainage.

Then added some fill dirt.

Next I added the top row logs and more back fill.

Next up will be adding some more fill dirt and let it all settle in real well and then make a solid berm to divert runoff around the pool area. It is actually raining today which is really helping settling everything.

So far material cost has been zero, but it did take a few more trees than I had originally thought.

I grew up in Oregon and have not seen anyone work with trees like you do in a long while.. My family built a log house with trees off our 40 acres when I was younger, I still have nightmares about peeling logs and that was 40 years ago... :)

Lol, yeah I have been fortunate enough to not have had to peel logs. :D Doesn't sound like fun at all!

So we had about 2 inches of rain, some of it came down crazy hard. I was very pleased with how the retaining wall held up. The dirt of course settled quite a bit, but that is what I was hoping for. So I "topped off" the soil.

I'll wait for one more good rain to see if it settles any further, then add top soil as need, seed the berm, then proceed to leveling the pool area accurately.

I ordered the Intex 32' x 16' pool this morning. It was down to $1250 w/ free shipping. Also ordered TF-100 kit with magnetic stirrer and a ecoone Hose Filter for filling the pool from my well.

Getting close to being able to jump in!
