Normally, I’d ask my PB but he’s a ghost so I’ll just take a shot in the dark. I have a 20k pool with attached raised spa. I have a SWG, heater, and booster pump for the cleaner. I know what the check valve to the right is. It’s the spa return. I know this because when I put it in spa mode, this check valve opens and I can see water flowing. My question is, what could the check valve to the right be? I have never seen it open. Any valve I open or close has never changed its position. It has been bugging me for quite awhile. Thanks

Does your spa spillover run when you are in POOL mode?

The right check valve is for your spa makeup line that feeds your spa when in POOL mode.

Yes. I have a spillover. It’s that simple? This check valve is always closed to ensure that the spillover is running in pool mode? Would it be safe to say if it failed and went to the open condition, my spa would empty or just no spillover?

To make water flow through the Spa Make-Up line, you would need to partially close the other two pool return lines.

One is probably a Bubbler and the other is probably a regular pool return.

The check valve keeps the water from flowing from the spa to the pool.

The check valve is open when the spillover is running.

The check valve closes when the pump is off to prevent water siphoning back from the spa to the pool.

If you ever find the spa level down after the pump is off then the check valve has probably failed.

I’m confused. While in pool mode the valve just to the left controls the bubbler in the spa. I have never seen this check valve open. I understand the spa return check valve, I can see it open when in spa mode but this

While in pool mode the valve just to the left controls the bubbler in the spa. The one just to the left of that one controls the pool bubblers. I just went outside to partially close both of them and the check valve remained closed. When I close the pool bubblers, both the spa and pool bubbles shut off and this check valve remains closed. I have never seen this check valve open. I understand the spa return check valve, I can see it open when in spa mode but this one is always closed.

The one just to the left of that one controls the pool bubblers.

When I close the pool bubblers, both the spa and pool bubbles shut off and this check valve remains closed.
This is not consistent.

You say that one valve controls the pool bubblers and one controls the spa bubbles and then you say that one valve controls booth bubblers?

What does each valve do?

What happens if you close both valves 100%?

What returns are in the pool and what returns does the spa have?

If the valve to the left of the check valve went to the spa bubbler, it would need a check valve.

EDITED to correct three way valve functions.

The actuator on top puts it in pool mode. The posted pic is pool mode. When the actuator is in the opposite direction, it is in spa mode, and the check valve under the actuator and to left opens.

The three way valve in the middle is to the spa bubblers.

The three way valve to the right is to the pool bubbler / returns

The check valve to the right is always closed even when close / partially close the three ways.

If this valve is the spa bubbler, then it would need a check valve or your spa would be drianing down.

Do you have pool returns?

If yes, what line is the Pool Return Line?

Can you show what returns you have in the spa?

Does the Spa have Jets, bubblers and regular returns?

In my opinion, the first valve is Pool Returns and the second valve is pool bubbler.

Note that the Booster pump pulls from the pool return line so you cannot close that 100% while the booster is on.

The main spa line probably goes to jets.

The Spa makeup line might go to a Spa bubbler or Spa regular returns.

I made a mistake. When in pool mode the 3 way in the middle controls the spa bubbler, not the spa returns and the 3 way farthest right controls the pool bubblers and pool returns.

Condition 1: When in pool mode, if I turn the middle 3 way off, it shuts off the spa bubblers and everything to the right. (to include pool bubblers)

Condition 2: When in pool mode, If I turn the farthest right 3 way off and leave the middle 3 way on, it only shuts off the pool returns / pool bubblers.

Condition 3: If I shut off both 3 ways then spa/pool bubblers and pool returns are shut off.

Condition 4: When in spa mode (actuator is 180 degrees from posted pic) only the spa returns are running, the spa bubbler is off, the farthest left check valve is open and everything to the right of the actuator is off.

None of the above conditions affect the check valve to the right.

I appreciate the your patience in trying to figure this out.

Can you show pictures of these conditions so I can see how the valves are set?

If both valves are closed, where is the water going?

The part that says "Off" needs to point straight down to close off the line.

The handle will point straight up.

So, rotate both valves 180 degrees from the position in this picture.

That will leave only the far right line open and water should go that way.

The wide part says Off.

The handles don’t move any other way than left or right. Neither one will go 180 degree's. They are open in the posted pics. Attached are the conditions.
