I am on my second Controlomatic Smarter Spa. This is a drape over Saltwater Chlorine generator for spas. Hopefully this device will last several more years.
But Controlomatic has now closed down. Anyone have recommendations on other aftermarket SWCG systems for spas? When you google this a lot of the results are for the Controlomatic systems.

Thanks, for those that have the Saltron mini, how has it worked for you? The seem to recommend using "Dead Sea Salts" - can you just use regular swimming pool salt?

I don’t have one but, yes, you can just use regular salt. There’s nothing special about the source of chloride ions the unit needs.

@Mdragger88 … are you a Saltron Mini user?

I am & have been a saltron mini user for a little over 6 years.
- the news of controlOmatic shutting down saddens me 😥 I was planning on making the swap to them when I use up my supply of saltron cells.
The saltron cells last me approximately 18 months pretty much every time. Mine runs approximately 3 hours per day on average. 2 hrs in the warmer months and 4 hrs in peak hot tubbing season.
I am on my 2nd controller.
Regular ole pool salt is perfectly fine. I start mine out at 2200 and let it ride until my purge/water exchange which is now generally 12 months barring some mishap. The only low salt warning I have ever had was due to the cell dying.
The saltron mini is really the only other dependable option unless you’re into trying Chinese units with less than stellar ratings/life spans from amazon or ebay.

I didn’t receive a notification of this tag 🏷️ I stumbled upon it organically.

Thanks for the info - that's very helpful. It is a shame that there aren't more solutions as, just like with pools, I think SWCGs are a way better solution that also reduces maintenance for the pool/spa owner.

I agree, but i also understand why. The price point just isn't favorable on a small scale. There's a few hundred bucks in electronics alone, plus the expensive plates, even if they don't need to be nearly as large as their SWG pool cousins.

Good points. There is also the anti-salt people who say stuff like "salt is corrosive, it will damage your heater, pumps, etc". As if chlorine or bromine aren't also extremely corrosive.

It happens to me randomly too. My best guess is we fat finger the 'unwatch' button at times and no longer get notifications from that thread while still getting all the others.

If tub manufacturers would start to adopt SWG tech in their products or at least tacitly approve the use of salt, then you'd see a bazillion manufacturers come online to meet the demand. The problem is, they love the sweet sweet profits they make off of selling ridiculous potions and minerals and voodoo to ever approve a product or process that would cut into those products ... and yeah, "salt" is the black-plague of hot tubs but that bag of "minerals" (aka, mostly salt) sitting on the shelf costing $50/lbs is totally ok and won't cause a problem at all ...:rolleyes::rolleyes:
