Day 1 of construction. Roughly 20x38 geometric & curved edge gunite pool. Can post progress & experience if helpful! Completely new to this, but have researched like crazy (🙋‍♀️type A personality). Very happy with our contractor to-date. No questions at this point, just looking to share this journey if it helps anyone since I referenced this site a lot while finalizing our design choices.

Well done so far!

Lets talk about your equipment:
-You do not need or want the UV. You get plenty of UV from the sun. The UV systems tend to cause trouble like consuming your FC (free chlorine) just like the sun does. Sure don't want that!

-What is the "chlorinator"? I think it is the tube you put chlorine tablet/pucks in. If so then you do not want that. The pucks adds stuff to your water like CYA (stabilizer) that can only be removed by removing and replacing some of your water as it builds up over time.

Instead of the chlorinator you can do1 of 2 things:
-liquid chlorine like found at pool stores or at Lowes/Home Depot/Walmart. This works great but is a bit of work because of having to go pick it up and then add it daily.

-SWG is the best way to go! Here is a link to help you learn about them: SWG How It Works - Further Reading This wonderful pool helper adds the chlorine for you!

Here is a link to page that will help you learn about all of the pool letters:

Thanks for that info! Very helpful. We’ll reach out to the pool builder to get clarity on the equipment and ensure we are getting a SWG.

Here is a link to a great post about what to do and look for before the shell is shoot:

Make sure to get model numbers for all of the equipment! I forgot to say that.

Do you have a light by the equipment? If not make plans for one. You will thank me for it when you have to go out there during a dark, stormy night!

Extremely helpful, thank you for pointing me to that info. We will run through all of the checks. We have a some lighting in the area of the pool equipment but not sure how bright it will be, we’ll definitely try it out one night to see. Thanks for the tip!

I was going to say exactly this. Get all of the model numbers so you know exactly what equipment you’re getting with no surprises. That was a lesson learned for me. The builders like to give generic equipment lists in the quotes so they can find the cheapest option that fits that description.

I’m definitely learning that now. We’ve reached out to our builder to request the specific equipment and will share that when we get it! Appreciate all of the knowledge on here.

We reached out to our pool builder and they had us for a chlorine pool instead of salt water generated, so I really appreciate this forum asking about our equipment! They apologized & updated our order to the following salt system and removed the UV equipment:

Pentair #521903 Intellicenter System (Load Center with I8PS Personality Kit) which includes IC40

Now is also a good time to ask what test kit your PB will be providing so we can fill in any holes.
