1st Pool Design - All Input Welcome!

Interesting picture but no context to the type of pool and what is around it.

What type of pool has a wood frame?

Wood screws into the top of the skimmer don’t look good.

Seen what?

Screws should not have been put through the top of the skimmer.

What model skimmer is that?

Why is the skimmer basket sitting in the skimmer waiting to get damaged?

Is the skimmer connected to plumbing?

Here is how I would expect a skimmer to be framed on a gunite pool...

Yep. This is the first time I've seen a pool built, and what you've posted here is what I would have expected. But you never know...
Good luck with that build. Is that your personal pool?

I would not accept a skimmer with holes in the top.

Is it a friend of yours ? Or did an existing customer move and want you to look out for them on the new build ?

It's kinda a sucky spot for you to be in either way. :(

Unrelated to your question, but do you have a picture of the final design? I can't picture how this is supposed to turn out with such high walls above ground for a shotcrete pool.

Thanks, everyone, for your replies. Normally I wouldn't touch a situation like this with a 10-foot pole, but some unique personal-relationship dynamics here mean I'm absolutely shielded from liability, and the homeowners are profoundly grateful, daily, for me to be their advocate/interpreter during the build.

Early concept renders: POOL_DAY_3.png

And a nighttime flythrough animation:

The pool has been engineered to be formed with 12" walls encapsulating #4 rebar in a 6" grid, with a few areas as #5 rebar. 5000psi shotcrete. Because of the slope of the yard, half the structure is actually at "ground level."

That is an awesome pool design! I'd love to see photos of the finished project, if possible.

Hopefully this contractor has the skills and expertise to complete this high-end pool project..

So, time to choose the lights. It seems like all we can choose from is LED and everyone has failure problems. Is this just where we are now? Looking at the Pentair Intellibrite Architectural Series, with some Microbrites to hide in the sheer descent's catchbasins. I don't really see a better alternative, and hate to tell the client they're just going to have to accept that these things will fail, and way before they feel is reasonable...

Architectural Series IntelliBrites are second generation and supposed to have improved reliability. Only time will tell.

Globrites were updated for 2024 and are supposed to have improved relaibility. Only time will tell.

Microbrites have not been updated yet for any improved reliability and I would steer away from them. If you want to use 1.5" nicheless lights look at the Jandy Hydrocool P-Series lights, which are CMP lights now that Fluidra bought CMP.

This is really useful; thank you. I'm concerned about the color temperatures not matching; I was sort of hoping staying in the product family would help potentially mitigate that. I have one of the Pentair Intellibrites here, and I'll get my hands on one of the Jandys you suggested to see how they pair. The client doesn't want any colors - just white.

$0.02, I have the color Intellibrites, installed 2022. They work great. 🤞 they last! Not sure what the prices are of the new gen Architectural series, but white vs color wasn’t much of a price difference so for me after $100K, what was another $100 x 2 lights. Kids really love having the multiple colors. Though, party mode is way too slow 🤣
