So I did a 6 day SLAM before having to take my daughter to college. It passed all 3 criteria 2 days in a row before I left. I then switched on the SWG to 40% before leaving. On 8/19:

FC 19.0
CC. .5
CYA 60
Pool temp 84

Upon return I was happy see the water was still CC. BUT on 8/23

FC 27
CC 0
CYA 60

Turned off the SWG but as of today 8/27
FC 26
CC 0
CYA 70

This despite 3 good days of hard afternoon rain? I am in FL and it is very hot and very sunny. I would have thought the FC levels would drop more quickly with no source of ongoing chlorine but suppose the CYA is doing its job a bit too well. Wife is a bit impatient in not being able to swim. How long can I expect the FC levels to remain that high? At what level is it safe to throw her in?

BTW, 18K in ground plaster pool.

How are you testing?

You are safe to swim in chlorine up to SLAM levels, which in your case with 70 CYA is 28ppm.

As long as you are using a recommended test kit and those numbers are accurate, swim away.

But again, how are you testing?

Thanks - besides the pool store that kept telling me all was well when it wasn't, I think I figured out the root cause of the hazy water in the first place - hadn't run the solar heaters in some time and guessing the water in them was a fester of fun waiting to get out to wreck havoc on the pool.
