Went to open the pool this year and my Heyward 1.5 Super is just humming and I put a new capacitor in it with no luck. Unfortunately it looks like I only have 115v line out there. I would like to upgrade to a VS pump but I dont see much available for 115v and the ones I did fine are $$$. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a 39k inground vinyl pool.

Dohneys has a couple but I don't know them besides that they exist. :)

After doing some research looks like I can convert the line to 230v fairly easily. Change the breaker and use the neutral as the other hot.

Yes, CAN be done...but should be done? erm...maybe not.

As always, best to consult an electrician and the NEC to ensure safety and code compliance.

If you ARE going to "color outside the lines," at least ensure that the wire size is appropriately sized for the distance and amperage of the breaker. Also make sure it is labeled appropriately. Again, NEC is your friend.

For most residential applications, a #12 AWG copper wire can be used for circuits up to 20 amps, while a #10 AWG copper wire is suitable for circuits up to 30 amps. (<<--this is not legal or electrical advice...and is a generality that ignores service wire length). Again, consult the NEC and your city codes.

Don't put 220 over 14 or smaller gauge (higher number) wires.

If you get the Waterway Power Defender 165 you will draw 13.6 amps (115Vac) so make sure you have 12 AWG for 20 amp breaker or 14 AWG for 15 amp breaker.
