I currently have a green pool. I am going to use the SLAM method but I cannot get rid of the 91 error message on my Intex SWG. I have tried cleaning the blades with vinegar and reversing the power cord (basically everything I found suggested on you tube besides messing with the circuit board). After I flipped the cord it worked for about 4 minutes and then stopped again.

Also when I got the water tested at Leslie's, it read that my chlorine level is fine but then my test strips said I have no free chlorine, no CYA or bromine. I am not sure what to think.

So my question is, do I need my salt cell functioning before I address the algae problem by shocking it? Or will the shock fix the SWG problem?? I don't want to waste my time and money by adding all the shock if it is necessary for the generator to be working.

For reference I have an 18 ft Coleman and a sand filter.

Any suggestions would be VERY much appreciated, I am out of my mind with frustration.

Welcome. In order to get started you will need to do a slam.
SLAM Process

When you do a slam the SWG should be off and you should be using liquid chlorine only.

You will also need a proper test kit so you can see what you have and what you are working towards.

Heed the advice on the test kit. Those test strips and leslies are why the pool is green.

The SLAM will buy us some time that hopefully someone comes along familiar with the 91 error code. Which model SWG is it ?

Also is it possible to SLAM without a test kit? I already have so much money into this darn thing and honestly don’t know if I have the mental capacity to interpret the results lol

I went down the 91 code rabbit hole and it just proves once again why the industry has its head shoulder deep up its rear.

Its a low salt code, so fill the machine with acid. :scratch:

Then the youtubers all clean the 'salt' off the cell. Except its calcium. But whatevs.

Is there any visible buildup on the cell ?

You need a Taylor K1766 salt test to know if the salinity is right.

No. The pool store won't test you multiple times a day for free, nor are they accurate anyway.

Test strips are vague for CYA when we need to know it to a 10, and FC doesn't read anywhere near as high as we need.
