Filter Union placement and orientation?

To open and clean my filter I am finally installing unions, but I have a couple big questions so I don't royally wreck my setup...

Firstly, I have a diagram to install the 3 unions and I wanted to know if there is any glaring problem with putting Union A on either side of the chlorinator? I think it could fit to the right, but then the remaining PVC pipe would have a large torque on it when I take off the filter cap to clean it out.

The next question is, is there a correct or optimal orientation for the unions? The exact model I bought was Praher Union 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" PVC Fitting SCH 40 Slip X Slip (#150-100) .

Finally, my last and most befuddling question so far is how much pipe do I actually have to cut out to install these? I have watched a number of videos and none talk specifically about this issue where both sides are rigidly installed and I'm not removing anything broken already... just making fresh cuts.

Thank you.

No problem with those locations. You remove 1/2" of pipe to maintain the same distance.
For the sake of your MPV spider gasket, it would be good to remove, or not use, that tab feeder and put a floating feeder in the pool.

Ok, I'm almost ready (mentally) to embark on this and one thing I am unclear on is this part:
**WARNING -- Before starting this process, be sure that the filter is isolated from the pool plumbing. I filmed this video at the very beginning of the swim season, and my plumbing was not hooked up yet. If the filter is still connected, turn off valves, disconnect plumbing, or do whatever you need to do to isolate your filter from the system. If you don't do this step, as you fill the filter with water, the junk and crud will fall into the standpipe and go right back into your pool.**

Since I cannot physically move my filter and it entirely plumbed up (runs year round) how do I handle this caveat? My thinking was that after I loosen up all the gunk and it DOES go into the lateral pipe that if I start the pump on the initial boot up on backwash that all that pipe debris will go to waste/not into my pool?

That works. Its also why you rinse after a backwash. You re-settle the sand bed and remove dirty water from the standpipe. And still, you may get a very small cloud of dirt back into the pool that won't hurt anything.
