FLo Error on New Hayward Summit XL Heater

Hi There -

I'm getting an FLo error on my new Hayward XL Pool Heater. First image is how the PB left the valves. Second image is how the PB just had me turn them to ensure the heater has full flow. Not sure why his tech left them the way he did on the first photo. I have backwashed a few times, pressure is down to about 14PSI, although it's usually around 10-12PSI. I can hear the water flow going through the heater after I reverse the flow post backwash. Skimmer has been emptied and the pool is clean. No breakers tripped. I looked through the manual, and I'm guessing that it could be a bad component to the heater?

Show us full views of your pool pad plumbing and the heater connections and other equipment.

Also, PB called me back and told me to put the valves back after talking with his tech. I've done that and now the pressure is back down to 10-12.

A heat pump adds restriction to the plumbing and it is normal for it to cause your PSI to increase by a few PSI.

The way the tech left the valves much of the water is bypassing the heat pump so the PSI is lower.

I think you should let your builder sort out this problem.

Thanks, I was hoping it was something easy, but perhaps it's not. I have a call into him, they've just been not so timely with responding.

Well it is screwy that your heater is saying it has low flow and your PB is saying to leave the bypass valves open to bypass more water.

Was the HP run and tested after it was installed?

Yes, it was working last night. Our water is actually sitting at 90 right now, with the pool cover on. The PB's tech just called me and is going to come out tomorrow. He said they've had this issue with 3 different hayward heaters and mine would be the 4th. They are defaulting to the manufacturer is my guess, which likely means it's going to be a while if I can't figure out a fix.

Will do - the PB's tech said he thinks it's an issue with the software and the interface if I'm not mistaken. He said they've installed new switches on all 3 and it hasn't fixed the problem.

So, to close this one out - I solved it. The Omnipad was set at 91, but the temp has been set at the heat pump itself. My water temp was at 91 as well. So what was happening was a FLo error because I think the Omnipad set a "governor" on the temp. I reset the breaker, and kicked up the temperature to 95 in the omnipad. Once I did that and powered the heat pump back on, it allowed me to boost the temp over 91 degrees, message went away, and is now gone even when I drop the temp back to 87, which is what we've been keeping it at.

Hope this helps someone else in the future.
