Hi Everybody,

My pool pump no longer works. It has been making some louder squealing noises for quite some time and it now will not turn on and I found a bunch of water on the ground around the pump.

So I have been expecting this day. I just am not sure how much pump I need for my pool.

8000 gallons, no in-floor vacuum, triton 2 sand filter.

I reached out to two sources for quotes and they responded with:

Intelliflo vs Cost of vs is $1600 that is installed and comes with a 3 year warranty when registered.
superflo vs which is more suitable for the filter and pool you have. 3 different speeds you can set. Cost $1400 installed. This option will save you money off electric bill as well. My opinion the superflo is the best for your pool at this time.

Here are a couple different options, the Hayward and Pentair are both complete pump/motor replacements. If you wanted to just do a motor, you'd be looking at about 705.00 for a variable speed motor only.

Hayward 950 Tristar Variable Speed 2HP
$1,800.00 Installed with tax and labor.
4 Year Manufacture Warranty $100.00 Rebate

Pentair Intelliflo Variable Speed 3HP
$1750.00 installed with tax and labor.
3 Year Manufacture Warranty $100.00 Rebate

We can have pumps ordered and installed within about week if you'd like to proceed.

Now looking at the system I'm likely to install myself. Do these pumps look correct for the job?

I would go with the Intelliflo. There are benefits to running a larger VS pump. For a given flow rate, the noise levels are lower. Efficiency is a bit higher than the Superflo as well. Plus, the difference in cost is not that much.
